How To Quickly Catch An Inshore Slam [New Exploration Trip Report]

I’m pleased to report that I had a fun trip out on the water this week while exploring some new waters in Tampa Bay to see how it fared from the red tide.
In the video below, you’ll see helpful tips for quickly catching redfish, snook, and seatrout on a short morning trip.
Plus, you’ll see some cool topwater redfish strikes, lots of pushes, and some fun drone shots.

- Subsurface: Daiwa Procyon
- Lines:
- Topwater: J-Braid 8 Grand – 10 lb test
- Subsurface: PowerPro – 10 lb test
- Leaders:
- Topwater: Ande Mono – 30 lb
- Subsurface: Ande Mono – 20 lb
- Lures:
- Topwater: Moonwalker
- Subsurface 1: Slam Shady 2.0 rigged on a 3/0 Owner TwistLock 1/8th oz
- Subsurface 2: Alabama Leprechaun rigged on a 3/0 Owner TwistLock 1/8th oz
- Scent: Dr. Juice Inshore Slam Scent
Conclusion
This is another example of the fact that using artificial lures can be a big advantage when fishing in new waters since they enable you to cover water more quickly.
It was just 3 hours from launching the boat and getting back to the ramp, so I had to move fast in order to first find some fish (#1 most important task). And then I just stuck with a few lures that I trust for getting strikes to end up completing the goal of catching a an inshore slam.

It’ s great that you still get excited about a big wake
I think it’s impossible for anyone who loves inshore fishing to not get excited when a wake is forming behind a lure:)
what was the split grip you were using. The butt looked shorter ( which I like) than the rods noted in the report

The best zones were actually a bit shallower… 1 to 2 ft of water.

Great video, heard Cockaroach was rebounding. Nice to see I’m not the only one getting short hits with topwater. Nice reds!
I went out there a couple mornings later but got out before the sun came up… they were much more aggressive in the earlier hour, but the topwater bite faded pretty fast once the sun rose.
