The Skinny Lipper lure has quickly become one of my favorites for covering shallow water feeding zones because it can get strikes from both lethargic and aggressive fish.
The key is to match the retrieve to the fish’s behavior. This video below will show you the 3 retrieve styles that you need to cycle through as you’re searching for fish to see what they respond to best.
Please be sure to watch this quick retrieve lesson video because it can you can catch MORE fish in LESS time while using this unique lure!

Conclusion
Make sure to cycle through these retrieve styles as you fish because what they respond to can change throughout the day.
All 3 styles work, so it’s important to practice all 3 so that you’re ready to match the retrieve to what the fish are responding to best.
We can’t wait to see some great fish you catch with the Skinny Lipper.

Like all the options just ordered can’t wait to get in the water
Great video. Lots of helpful information. Can’t wait to put it to use.
Can’t wait to get mine and try it. Great tutorial as usual. Adding the last bit of info regarding the preferred knot, makes it complete. Keep up the great work.
Just ordered some skinny dippers tonite. Excited to give them a try. Great tutorial vid.
Luke, since braided line sinks so fast, do you use it on this lure?
I haven’t noticed that braid sinks any faster than mono… if it does, it’s not enough to worry about. I absolutely use braid line for this lure and all others that I throw given how much better I can feel what’s happening since braid has no stretch.
Thanks for all the great video tutorials. I’m new to Bogue Sound, NC and Salt Strong, you and the community have been a big help. No great success yet but I’m stubborn and I’ll keep at it. I’ll give this skinny lipper a shot, it looks like a great lure.
This lure is extremely good in areas with 3 ft depths or less that have baitfish in the 4 inch range… so excellent for fishing shorelines with grass and/or oysters.
Just ordered a couple just in case I decide to give one away like I did the last time with my moonwalker !!!
Thanks for the info Luke !!!
Thanks so much for sharing with other fishermen!
Great video on the Skinny Lipper retrieve.
Just purchased mine!
Is the skinny lipper specifically for open water, grass areas. Is there any way to use in mangroves or docks”
It’s for any body of water where predators are feeding on baitfish near the surface. So yes, this lure can be great around mangroves and docks. I even use it out on artificial reefs for mackerel and Bonita.
