Most people will take the shrimp and slide the hook right through the middle of the body.
This is actually the WORST way to rig live or dead shrimp.
It will cause the shrimp to spin underwater creating a totally unnatural presentation.
Another mistake anglers make is using the wrong size hook.
They’ll use a hook that is way too big for the shrimp.
If you use a hook that’s too big, you’ll weigh down the shrimp causing an unnatural presentation.
You want to instead match the size of the hook to your bait.

I also see many fisherman just put shrimp on hooks and toss out. they not really placing shrimp correct on hook. I hook either just behind horn or rear tail. Pat, Tony you guys doing a great job. I’m Texas yakerman

While I don’t fish with live bait at all I will admit actually anything used whether it be live or artificial one definatly has to match the right hook or the lure or bait won’t act in the correct way like spinning or twisting on the line anyways as always thanks fir the great info and informative video and as always all you do for this great inshore saltwater fishing club called saltstrong👍😉

I agreed with almost everything said. Unless you are after catfish, then hook placement doesn’t matter. I use Mustad #2-1/0 Mustad Demon inline circle hooks for all my shrimp applications. For some unknown reason, Owner hooks don’t do as good of a job for me.
So odd that I’ve actually found the exact opposite for me. Lol. When I actually use live shrimp, my favorite is a 3/0 tournament light circle. I have both hooks in 1/0-5/0 sizes just in case, but rarely ever use any bait unless fishin is that hard sight casting lures. I’ll use the 2/0 when the shrimp are a lil smaller. Most my setups are 15/20lb braid, 20/25lb leader and a medium inshore rod. I basically envision 10lb line settings and have the line overkill for abrasion and also most the time it’s used in not so clear water in the Laguna madre area in texas.
