These are the types of spots you NEED to fish right now and most importantly – WHY!!!

Incoming Tides
Keep in mind, I am showing you one specific spot, however, the concepts we discuss will apply all over the country.
When the temperatures are this high during the middle of summertime, the fish are looking for THREE specific things.
They’re looking for cooler water, easy access to bait, and finally dissolved oxygen.
As the water temperature increases, there is less oxygen in that water.
The best source for cooler, oxygenated water is the cool ocean water getting flushed in with incoming tides.
This is why inlets and passes close to bigger bodies of water are especially better fishing spots this time of year.
Specifically, we want to first fish those areas that are hit by that incoming water from the ocean.
Not only is the water cooler, but the bait is present in these areas as well which the fish are locked into.
This approach is for incoming tides.
Outgoing Tides
On outgoing tides, you want to identify spots where predatory fish can line up and let bait get pushed with the tide right into their mouths.
Look for areas where fish can stage as rivers dump water out into oceans.
Anything getting flushed out of the rivers will pass through these areas and the fish know that and stage there for feeding.
Those are the details you need to look for when finding spots anywhere in the country right now.
Smart Spots
Furthermore, an even easier way to find these types of spots in 60 seconds or less is with Smart Spots.
Our Smart Fishing Spots platform includes Smart Spots which identifies the best fishing zones in a given area based on tides, weather, and other factors.
These spots will change seasonally and with the tides to indicate whether or not they’re “Hot” or “Fair” for fishing.
Smart Spots uses all the necessary information to provide you with instant hotspots depending on the conditions.
This is only a piece of the puzzle.
The other factor that comes into play is knowing what to do when you get out there.
This is what we do at Salt Strong.
We help teach you exactly what you need to do when you get out on the water.
We’ll help simplify your approach to catch MORE fish in LESS time.

Any tips for Bastrop Bay Area near Freeport Tx
I just joined Salt strong and excited to see how it helps me target more speckle trout in the morning. There is a lot to learn and hopefully I’ll have a signal on my phone to use the app.
Thanks Pat, I put these principles on my next trip.
Let us know how you do!! It should help quite a bit
Does your app. Work for California? I live in the delta region of San Francisco by Isleton. Lots of snow melt water coming from the mountains with low temps. 60/70 °℅in the rivers.
The marine charts and the bottom contour layers do work but we haven’t turned on the Smart spots feature yet for that area. You could always join and if you’re not satisfied, we have a money back guarantee for one year. There’s a lot more in the Insider Club to help you than just the app.
Thanks for the reminder Pat. This weekend we used these principles to have a productive day. Fished area close to pass with wind hitting point on incoming cooler water. With water temp low 90’s this strategy is very important. Thanks for great lesson- again.
Thank you sir! Glad you liked it!
Yea I know saltstrong has preached fishing close to inlets and passes for years now but what’s weird is the spots I go to are not close to any passes or the ocean either yet I still see tons of bait and predatory fish like reds and flounder pushing v-wakes ahead after being spooked and or making mud clouds when they leave and I do catch fish in these areas but as far as the smart fishing spots locator app it’s still showing the same areas as being good fair or great no matter what time of year like you and I know fishing way back in creeks in the middle of an extremely hot day is not the way or place to go in the middle of summer but that’s what the smart fishing spots app tells me to do don’t know what to say just telling it like I myself experience it what you or anybody else experiences is what you see anyways I get your point thanks for the info and all you do
Not sure what area you are in, but in SW Florida the smart spots change a lot. Maybe your location just needs updating?
I live and fish in northeast fl jacksonville area and have been a life member since 2018 and when smart fishing spots first came out I down loaded it but it had many problems back then like not showing your location then that problem was finally fixed but the locations that I am talking about I have fished for years but no matter what time of year I look at those spots in always says the same areas are good great or fair the only thing I have found accurate is in those spots the prediction of how good they are does change with the tide cycles but no matter if it’s winter or summer it still shows the same spots and like I said to pat we as saltstrong anglers if being a member for a while all know fish move especially with the seasons so a back of a creek should not be as productive in the hot summer months as it would be in the winter here in northeast fl our icw and the st johns river has mostly muddy dark bottom content the opposite of obviously where you fish in southern fl where the waters clear and has seagrass with lots of sand and mangroves totally different environment anyways just saying and my location on my phone works just fine because I recently has it checked at tge phone store
We are actually doing some more updates to Smart Spots to make it more accurate with the seasonal changes. The thought is to keep those spots in the back country from popping up in the summer and the spots in the open water near the inlets to be more accurate in the winter.
Always changing! Appreciate you Steven!
