Years ago setting out decoys in a cranberry bog lake had my waders on and also stepped into a hole.Didn’t go over my head but was slowly sinking into the bottom mud.Gods honest truth, my friend who was still asleep in the camper brought his dog (yellow lab/golden mix) who was on the bank came out and helped me get out.Always wore a lite preserve after that.

Ended up picking up medium-budget ones (Striker Ice fishing waders ) and so far so good. Hopefully those gonna get me through Oct-Nov fishing!

Yes! I just use the anchor pin and have it connected to a loop on my kayak. If I’m not 100% sure where the fish are, I will tie a rope to my wade belt and tow my kayak behind me about 25-30 yards.

How do you secure your Kayak when you wade fish from it out in the flats. Do you just use your anchor Pin and trolley? Sometimes you may wander a distance from the kayak. Thanks for all you do.

Wyatt – great post! I get lots of questions about waders. I have waders in each of the price ranges you cover but find myself buying and using the lower priced versions most often. First, I typically use waders when the water temp drops below 70 degrees. Otherwise I’m wet wading with shorts and wading booties. I prefer breathable, uninsulated waders when water temps are 65 or higher and use neoprene waders when the water is below 65 degrees. I only use stocking foot waders and do not recommended boot waders as the boots don’t usually fit well, are heavy and make walking through soft bottom areas very difficult. With my stocking foot waders, I use the same wading booties I use when wet wading but at least one size larger. If you are only going to buy a single pair of waders, I’d recommend buying the uninsulated, breathable waders and wearing long underwear, sweat pants or pants underneath to provide the necessary insulation to keep you warm. I will occasionally wear my waders in warm water to protect myself from jelly fish which can be numerous during certain times of the year. In those cases or even as water temps are cool but not cold, I just wear shorts and no insulating clothing. Neoprene waders are cheap and great when water temps are at their lowest because you don’t need to wear insulating clothing underneath, but they can become uncomfortably hot as water temps rise, especially if you’re covering a lot of ground and working up a sweat. I recently purchased a pair of Compass 360 Tailwater Breathable Stockingfoot Chest Waders and have been extremely pleased with the fit and performance. I can’t attest to their durability as I have less than a full winter of use but so far so good. These are a mid priced option at $190. You can pick up a pair of Frog g Togg Amphib Neoprene Stockingfoot Chest Waders for least than $70 and likely get at least a couple of seasons out of them. My booties of choice are Promate 5mm Dreadnought Hard Sole Scuba Dive Zipper Boots. They are light, durable and affordable at less than $40. I’ve been using these for years now after trying just about every bootie ever made. Buy one size larger than normal when wearing over stocking foot waders. You can wear them when wet wading if you wear a pair of socks underneath instead of buying another pair for wet wading. Hope this helps.

I have been wade fishing for years in the NE for Striped Bass and South Fl where I have been for 40 years. I have encountered sharks swimming but NEVER an incident. When was the last time you have heard of an intracoastal shark attack? Use due diligence, buy what fits and tight lines!

Most stocking foot waders of respectable quality (even the low end ones we covered in this video) do NOT come with boots. They just are fitted with the sock that attaches to the waders.

I reccomend Orvis Clearwaters or Orvis Flats Sneakers. For a budget option, go with ForEverlast Ray Guard Boots! Wader Dave is also fond of the NRS boots.
