The “Uni Knot” and the “Double Uni Knot” are thought to be among the strongest fishing knot by many anglers.
However, many people do not realize that it needs to be altered when you use it to tie a braid line to fluorocarbon leader due to the large differences in diameter between the two.
Fortunately, the change is extremely easy given that it’s as simple as just doubling over the braid for added strength (hence the double-double uni knot). This video will show you exactly how to tie a double uni knot.
Higher Breaking Strength “Double Uni Knot”
At the end of this video you will see a head to head “knot war” that will reveal which fishing knot is the strongest, including a knot off between a “Double Uni Knot vs a Double-Double Uni Knot”.
And if you have never seen a “Double-Double Uni Knot” then you definitely want to stay tuned.
Note that this video is created for braided line to fluorocarbon leader.

Which is better the double uni or the FG knot or am I looking at these knots wrong?
?
The FG knot is noticeably stronger and thinner than the double uni, so I now use that exclusively when connecting braid to my mono/fluoro leader lines.

Thank You Sir
Should this doubled-over double uni knot be under the “doubled braid-to-leader knots” category? Thanks for all the knot education!
The doubled braid category is for knots where the braid is first doubled over using a knot like the bimini twist which then gets tied to the leader with a different knot. This is just doubling the braid over to help create more surface area so I don’t consider it in the official doubled line category.
test the double double uni on the your pound measuring line braking device.
and yes im sending these vids to my friends
Luke have you looked at the SC knot ?
Yes. It is not as strong as the FG knot so I do not recommend it.
If i tie my double uni with the flouro leader making my wraps over the top from front to back and then tie the braid knot with wraps going over the top from front to back this knot seems to break randomly for no apparent reason. If when doing the second knot in the braid and take it over the top from back to front.. this never happens, the knot is always reliable and strong. Going over the top from front to back with both knots seems to me that the spirals going in opposite directions and an opportunity to not mate evenly in the middle when you set the knot. The other way to avoid this condition is just 180 deg the two lines before you tie the second knot. This aligns the spirals in the same direction also and it always turns out strong and reliable.. hope this makes sense with no vid to follow it,.
thanks for the opportunity to share this.. Hallmark..
Luke, thanks for another great video. Have you tested if the double-double is also stronger when the mono/fluoro is weaker than the braid? I would think so since there is more surface area on the braid cutting into the mono, but it would be nice to have that confirmed in a test.
Also would be good to know how the double-double uni compares to the Alberto and FG knot. Again, comparing stronger and weaker combinations of mono/fluoro and braid would be enlightening.
Question. On the double double uni, why not double up the fluorocarbon AND the braid? I am assuming w/ 30 lb Fluoro it would just be too bulky a knot on your line?
Correct, the knot would get very bulky if the leader is doubled over. And the leader is stronger than the mainline, so the core goal is to double the weaker line to give it some more support.
I’ve used the double uniknot for years, but thanks to your video, I’m going to try the double, double uniknot. I was curious, have you tried a double Albright knot? Based on the improvement of the double, double unknot, I was wondering if there would be benefit doubling the braid in the Albright. Thanks.
I have not yet tried the double albright, but I have to assume that it would be a bit stronger than the normal albright knot given how pretty much all other knots have seemed to be a bit better with the doubled line similar to this double double uni knot.
Third try without success…Yikes!
I can’t find a scissors that work well for braid. What kind of scissors do you use?
I mostly just use the cutters on my pliers. The Danco ones on the Insider Discount page work great!

These work well for me. Cuts braid cleanly and easily. I started with these, but moved up to the next larger size because they feel better in my hand.
